Ways to Enjoy Coffee: Keep Your Gear Clean

Keep It Clean

We know that this is not the most glamorous way to enjoy your coffee, but trust us — cleaning your coffee makers will make your morning sip taste significantly better each time.

Residual oils from previous brews go rancid over time and create a bitter, stale undertone that masks the true flavor of your beans. Making sure your coffee gear is clean ensures a fresh pour of coffee each and every time.

How to Clean Each Brewer

French Press

  1. Disassemble the plunger — unscrew the filter screens
  2. Wash all parts with warm soapy water
  3. Use a bottle brush for the carafe
  4. Rinse thoroughly and air dry

AeroPress

  1. Pop out the used coffee puck
  2. Rinse the chamber and plunger
  3. Occasionally soak the rubber seal in warm water to maintain the seal

Pour Over / Dripper

  1. Discard the paper filter and grounds
  2. Rinse the dripper immediately after each use
  3. Monthly: soak in a mixture of water and white vinegar (1:1)

Drip Coffee Machine

  1. Run a brew cycle with equal parts water and white vinegar monthly
  2. Follow with 2–3 cycles of plain water
  3. Wash the carafe and filter basket after every use
